MapleStory Economy

Players in MapleStory can get items by killing monsters and opponents, and completing quests or buy from a shop or other players. These items can be traded as well and corresponding taxs wii be attached with the value of items. Usually higher value transactions attract a virtual tax.

Althrough it is free for players, in order to improve the fun of game, the Cash Shop is introduced into MapleStory to generate revenue. There is a virtual shop where players can buy items with real money, so called microtransactions. Some cash shops will be out of service after a certain period of time. Pets, modeled after animals such as monkeys, dogs, cats, bunnies, pandas, and pigs, follow the owner around and can be equipped to pick up spoils dropped by enemies.

There is also a free market in MapleStory where players can trade for their items. Miniature shops can be set up in this area, allowing people to browse their stock. Store permits, which are required to set up a shop, are only available through the Cash Shop. Te store permits are devided into two kinds: a standard store, which requires the presence of the player, and the hired merchant which does not require the presence of the player but requires additional cash shop money to use this feature. The hired merchant store is only available in time periods of 24 hours, one week, or two weeks. Conversely, the standard store lasts ninety days but only works with the presence of the user. One can meet with players located in other towns, provided the town contains a Free Market entrance. However, one cannot use the Free Market to travel between towns.

It is impossible to trade real money trading between players in MapleStory, including MapleStory Mesos (ingame currency) with NX and Cash Items (items bought with real money) It is prohibited and banned. This is to keep a fair and balanced online game order among players.
